Today we are focusing in on preparing for the potential essay questions that might come up on your final exam. We are creating some questions and associated notes based on the learning outcomes for the course. Today's focus is WW1. The broad topic of the notes is "assess Canada's role in World War One and the war's impact on Canada." Create some inquiry questions (as we did earlier in the year) and use them to focus your notes.

Today we started making our WW1 websites. I'll post the assignment tomorrow morning. They'll be due next Monday. The second part of your timeline, including the battles of WW1, will be due on Monday.
The first part of your timeline, based on page 5 of the notes, is due on Thursday.
I've included some sample timelines below to illustrate certain concepts you may want to use with your own: The timeline above is an example of a very simplistic version. At a minimum, yours should look like this, with a line down the centre of the page and arrows illustrating where the events you're describing fit over time... This next timeline illustrates two things. First, illustrations can help enhance meaning - feel free to use them when appropriate. Second, the line graph at the bottom illustrates the the stock price of Apple Corporation, allowing one to relate the company's value with the release of its products. This technique may be appropriate for certain aspects of your own timeline. This last image demonstrates how you can illustrate events that happen over a period of time. This will definitely be relevant to your timeline as you go on with the project.
On Wednesday, you will have a quick quiz on the causes of WW1. The info can be found in the 1st 4 pages of the notes I handed out to you on Monday. Good luck!
Firstly, the WW1 notes can be downloaded HERE. Your job is to read and highlight the first 4 pages.
Next, we need to organize the events of the First World War chronologically. To do this, we are going to create a timeline. Start with the events on page 5 of the notes, and work your way through. Keep in mind that you may need to leave space for events that we haven't discussed yet, so be neat and leave space. 1. Draw a line, neatly, down the centre of your paper. You may need to continue this onto a second piece of paper before you are through. 2. Place the events, in order, on your timeline, with dates if possible. Use a neat line to signify where they belong. 3. Write a brief explanation of the event alongside each. *Keep in mind that some events take place over a period of time, and that you may need to show th Today we discussed the concepts of cause and consequence - and related them to some historical photographs. The students had some interesting insights in our discussion. The assignment that goes along with this discussion deals with the list of events below: Your job is to take two of the above events and do a bit of research on them. Take a few quick notes on each event. Be sure to focus, and have a couple of points jotted down about, the causes of the event, and the consequences of it... We'll use that info during tomorrow's class.
